Helping You Find Your Way Back to One Another.
Couples therapist online in California.
Hi, I’m Dr. Annie Hsueh (pronounced “SHAY”), Founder of Hope and Sage Psychological Services. I have dedicated my professional career towards helping individuals and couples understand and strengthen their relationships.
Feeling tired of the same arguments, distance, or misunderstandings? You care deeply for your partner, but so many conversations turn into conflict or silence. I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help you understand, tackle, and overcome these types of negative patterns in your relationship and to build new, positive patterns.
I work with couples who…
feel stuck in the same conflict.
want to increase emotional closeness.
struggle with communication.
need to rebuild trust.
tried learning tools, but not sure how to apply them.
want to strengthen their relationship before problems grow.
My Approach
At its heart, EFT helps couples rebuild emotional safety and connection.
Couples often come into therapy being worried about being judged, blamed, or misunderstood. My goal is to create a space where both of you feel respected, heard, and safe to speak authentically about what you are experiencing.
My style is curious, engaged, and non-judgmental. I listen closely to both partner’s perspective and work carefully to understand what both of you are going through. Rather than taking sides, I focus on helping you both feel genuinely heard and “gotten.”
I am an active guide in the process. I track the details of what each of you are saying and reflect it back to make sure I’m understanding accurately. I will check in and ask whether I’m getting it right, and I will encourage you to tell me when you feel “missed.” Feeling safe in therapy is an important part of our work together.
In our work together, you can learn to:
· Recognize the patterns that keep you stuck.
· Slow down difficult conversations so both of you feel heard.
· Understand the deeper emotions beneath conflicts.
· Express fears and needs in a safer way.
· Create new patterns of connection and support.
· Rekindle the playfulness you once felt in your relationship.
· Be a team again.
· Feel deeply secure and “at home” in your partner’s embrace again.
· Build the relationship you really want
Change is possible and Emotionally Focused Therapy offers a roadmap for this work. You can move from frustration and blame towards understanding, empathy, and renewed connection.
